This refurbishment project involved the comprehensive strip-out and transformation of the existing building, creating a contemporary and highly functional internal environment through the introduction of a modernised spatial layout and upgraded building services infrastructure.
As part of the mechanical services installation, an Air Handling Unit (AHU) provides conditioned and tempered air throughout the facility, ensuring a comfortable and controlled internal environment across the open-plan office areas, meeting rooms, changing facilities and canteen. The system has been designed to support the varying occupancy and environmental requirements associated with each space.
Heating requirements are met through two high-efficiency air-to-water heat pumps located within the external plant compound. These systems provide the primary heating source for the building, supplying heated water to the underfloor heating system and fan coil units, thereby delivering efficient and responsive space heating throughout the occupied areas.
In addition to the space-heating systems, a dedicated internal heat pump provides the building’s domestic hot water requirements, supplying heated water to the sanitary and welfare facilities throughout the premises.
The mechanical services installation is centrally controlled and monitored via a Building Management System (BMS). The BMS provides intelligent control of the building’s mechanical plant and equipment, allowing system operation and internal environmental conditions to be continuously monitored and regulated. This integrated approach facilitates efficient plant operation, occupant comfort and effective management of the building’s overall environmental performance.
